Highlights

Great Ocean Road Trip Itinerary

Come along for the ride as we cruise along Victoria’s stunning coastal route. We’ll start in the morning, leave Melbourne, and head to the Shipwrecks Coast.
The first scenic stop will be the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, where you can get a quick photo at the start of the Great Ocean Road, the longest war memorial in the world.
Then, we’ll head to the charming laid-back coastal town of Apollo Bay, where you’ll have an hour to wander around and have lunch (at your own expense).
We’ll then enter the beautiful Great Otway National Park. Keep an eye out for koalas in the tall eucalyptus trees as we drive through this gorgeous landscape. We’ll also take a short walk through the Great Otway Rainforest National Park.
Be prepared to be blown away by one of the highlights of the day: the 12 Apostles at sunset. These stunning rock formations are stunning from the viewing platform.
Then, we’ll visit Loch Ard Gorge, where you can learn about the shipwrecks and hear some amazing survival stories that add to the place’s atmosphere.
On the way back to Melbourne, we’ll stop in Colac, where you can have dinner (at your own expense).

After Melbourne, we head to the Surf Coast, where we drive through the beautiful coastal towns of Anglesea, Lorne and Airey’s Inlet. We stop for morning tea and enjoy the sea breeze while watching surfers catch the waves. The Antarctic waters explain why everyone wears a wetsuit as you can feel the cold water with your toes.

We will stop at the Great Ocean Road monument, which marks the start of the Great Ocean Road. We will take some photos at the famous Memorial Arch and learn about the soldiers who built this road in memory of their mates who didn’t return. Then, we will continue on through more stunning views and stop for photos along the way.

We will stop to search for koalas and other Australian wildlife along the Great Ocean Road and see them in their natural habitat. As these animals are wild we can’t guarantee their appearance but our guides know the best places to go into the bush to see them resting.
A lunch break is scheduled in Apollo Bay (approximately 45 minutes – at your own expense). After you have had time to look around Apollo Bay, pick up any souvenirs you like or have some ice cream, you will get back on the bus to head to the Great Otway National Park inland.
We continue along the Great Ocean Road and head into the hills of the Great Otway National Park. As we drive past giant Eucalyptus trees we arrive at a Cool Temperate Rainforest. You will be amazed at the change in scenery as we walk among the tree ferns and see the ancient Myrtle Beach trees which date back to the time when Australia was part of the supercontinent Gondwanaland. Take a deep breath of the fresh air before we head off on a scenic drive to the Shipwreck Coast!
After the trees we get back to the Southern Ocean and Port Campbell National Park, home of the famous 12 Apostles. You will have 40 minutes to explore the Apostles, take in the magnificent views from all the vantage points, walk the boardwalks and get the perfect photo opportunity of this wild and rugged coastline.
In Port Campbell National Park we will visit Loch Ard Gorge, where one of Australia’s most famous shipwrecks is located, where you will learn the story of Tom and Eva. Then we will head to the beach to explore the caves. You’ll see the Island Archway, Razorback and the ‘Salt and Pepper Shakers’ rock formations.
After a big day, we leave the Great Ocean Road and head inland, taking the back roads back to Melbourne. We will pass through the country town of Colac. If you want to stop for dinner (at your own cost), we can do so here before we get back to Melbourne around 8:30 PM.
